Waiting |
Description: |
When I went past the SR 100 crossing, the crew was cutting the train, which they typically do if theres going to be a long wait, and they dont want to block traffic. I ran up to the the head end to get this shot while I considered my next move. I didnt know it, but there was a southbound in the mix, which would make the decision easy. |

Rolling meet |
Description: |
Though not the way youd expect. The grain train makes its way south on the main, while the coal train, which had cut at the crossing, now backs down to reconnect. Both sets of power moving the same direction. Not your typical meet. |

On the creek |
Description: |
The coal train rolls across Baron Creek under a Kodachrome sky. The sky was stunning this day. I was glad to get this shot; I didnt beat him by much, as US 59 between here and Stilwell is now under construction. This summers project is to turn it into a four lane, which will be welcome. |

A few shots at Westville |
Description: |
I took up a position on old US 59, which rises several hundred feet above the surrounding landscape. Its a favorite spot, as the view is panoramic. The sky this day was a classic Kodachrome sky, and I wanted to take advantage. |

Guardrail in place |
Description: |
The northbound rolls past the guardrail approaching the Ballard Creek bridge just south of Watts. Theres another soutbbound grain move in the siding, but the power is behind the stand of trees at the south end of the siding, so I didnt get the meet. Hell meet another 262 at Siloam. |

Wanted this shot for a long time |
Description: |
The next sequence is the coal train coming into Siloam Springs from the south. Its not an easy shot to get, as the lighting is good only about four months of the year, and you have to be on the US 412 overpass to get it. You also have to beat a northbound up from Watts if youre chasing, which means if you dont make all the lights in Siloam Springs, you might not beat it here. I did this day, with good results. Hes just about to cross Lake Frances Rd. |

The coal train is about to pass under my position on the US 412 overpass. It was an easy shot; I took the photo through the open passenger side window. The cars at left are plastic pellets for Pipelife Jetstream. |

Going to meet a northbound |
Description: |
There was chatter on the radio about a northbound, so I went down to the station to see if I could get it on the way into town. It turned out to be an empty AEPX coal train behind a Belle and a UP unit, here approaching the Stilwell station. |
