AEPX south |
Description: |
A loaded AEPX train rolls past the soccer field at Westville. The kids are about to kick off, oblivious to the wheels of commerce turning behind them. |

Not quite enough |
Description: |
The sun had gone down just far enough by the time this train reached Siloam that I could not get a good lit shot. Still looks good rolling past the signals at North Siloam Springs. |

Out the window |
Description: |
A alightly askew. We were on our way to church when I saw the gates go down in the distance. I knew we wouldnt make the head end, but were able to get to the crossing about the time the DPUs went past on this empty oil train. Its an odd angle, and I did the best I could for a grab shot. |

On the bridge |
Description: |
The KCS crosses Baron Creek just south of Baron, and is easily viewed from adjacent US 59. Thats the vantage point for this shot of the empty TXUX train as it heads north in fading light. The lack of rain this year is apparent in the almost dry creek bed. |

Late afternoon reflection |
Description: |
The coal train I encountered at Cave Springs passes the station at Stilwell, the light angle giving me a lot of glint. Shooting northbounds can be a challenge this time of year, with low sun and odd angles |

How now |

The empty coal train rolls past a farm scene, the iconic view of steer in the pasture, and hay bales lined up for the winter. |

Study in orange |
Description: |
The coal train passes a stand of trees that is not far off the colors of the diesels on the northbound. Color was better this year than its been in other years, though the oranges and dark reds are no match for the northeast. |

Low sun on the river |
Description: |
The coal train rolled slowly thought Watts, and I was able to get to the Illinois River crossing in time to get him on the bridge there. The water was calm, allowing this nice reflection shot. |

Like always, it starts with something else |
Description: |
We were coming back from lunch, when we saw the 181 train stretched out down to the US 412 overpass, waiting in the siding. We had to drop some mail at the post office, then head home. He was still there 15 minutes later when we came back. My wife said I could drop her home and take off. I dropped her off, grabbed a bag of recycling, and away I went. I got this shot of the head end waiting south of Lincoln St after dropping the bottles. The detector went off right after, and the chase was on. |
