SPV |
Description: |
The SPV 2000 was going to be the return of the RDC. Didnt quite work out so well, enough so that SPV turned out to mean "seldom powered vehicle." This one is owned by Connecticut DOT, and covered the New Haven-Springfield trips. |

SPV |
Description: |
Metro North had 10 of these. Like Amtraks, they were not terribly reliable and had a short service life. This one is at Harmon, having just come in from Poughkeepsie. |

For some reason I didnt get a clear shot here, but the SPVs were oddball enough to warrant the post. This is 297 rolling north for Poughkeepsie after dropping a few riders at Garrison |

Metro North had ten of these Budd SPV 2000's, which wags referred to as "Seldom Powered Vehicles" due to their reliability problems. Heres one at Poughkeepsie on a Saturday, holding down the run to Harmon |

Springfield service |

One of the reasons Connecticut financed its group of SPVs was to cover the New Haven-Springfield trains that connected with the Northeast Corridor. This one is at Windsor Locks |

CDOT car |
Description: |
Connecticut DOT acquired a variety of rail equipment, which was painted variously for Metro North, Amtrak, and later New Haven, heritage units long before NS or UP had the idea. Despite the paint jobs, it ran where DOT needed it, and it was not uncommon to see an Amtrak painted car on a New Haven commuter train. Such is the case here, a CDOT car painted Amtrak working on the Danbury Branch. |
