Metro North test train
Title:  Metro North test train
Description:  The Port Washington Branch had a test facility at Shea Stadium, where there were a number of unused tracks that had been built for the 1964/65 Worlds Fair. Off line trains were somtimes seen, usually new equipment being tested, but occasionally NYCTA cars too, since the voltages were similar, and they shared an over running third rail. I recall seeing R42 cars going past my house in Little Neck. Here we see some Metro North cars waiting to go east on a test.

125th St next
Title:  125th St next
Description:  A Grand Central bound train arrives at Tarrytown. Ill jump on here, as Im headed to my cousins wedding in New York. I had driven down from Binghamton, and rather than go to Manhattan and pay a ridiculous amount of money to park after fighting the traffic, Ill get off at Grand Central and walk the seven blocks to St Bartholomew. It was a good plan. The wedding was at 4 PM, I had left upstate at 1130 to make this 244 PM train. I even had time for a hot dog on the way up from Grand Central. It took my brother two hours to get into the city from Jersey.

M-3s
Title:  M-3s
Description:  The first M 3 car makes a stop on a westbound Hempstead train. Hard to believe as I post this that these cars are now almost 30 years old. I still think of the M 1s as the "new" cars!!

Special train

Ronkonkoma electric
Title:  Ronkonkoma electric
Description:  The electrification to Ronkonkoma had been opened 18 months prior to this shot, and MUs were now routinely plying the Main Line east, as this train is doing, blowing past Bellerose on its way to the pine barrens. In the distance, there's another MU train, this one from Huntington. You can see why I liked coming here.

M 3s from Hempstead
Title:  M 3s from Hempstead
Description:  The Bellerose station was served by Hempstead Branch trains. This one has just made its stop and is now waiting for the signal at Queens, as it needs to cross all the way over to track 4 to make Queens Village and Hollis on its way to Jamaica and Brooklyn. The M 3 set we are looking at was almost new in 1987.

M 3s
Title:  M 3s
Description:  Bellerose was a great place to see the action on the Main Line as it crossed the Queens-Nassau county line. Besides diesel trains, there was also a lot of MU action. This train is westbound from Hempstead with a set of then new M 3 cars, about to enter the plant at Queens interlocking.

Huntington train
Title:  Huntington train
Description:  For the most par, off peak schedules on the Port Jefferson branch were covered by MU trains to Huntington, and diesel scoots from there east. One such is this mid day Sunday train rolling past Bellerose.

West Hempstead train
Title:  West Hempstead train
Description:  A West Hempstead train rolls through Valley interlocking and into the station. It has come off the branch, which diverges to the left beyond Valley tower, and will connect here with Far Rockaway and Long Beach trains. West Hempstead was a poor stepchild on the west end, seeing only token service-about every two hours on weekends.
