Not exactly a proper roster shot, this is the nose of the unit on the San Joaquin Valley job at Visalia. It was perfectly posed for the setting sun as it sat on the main, ready for the next days action. |

Local close up |
Description: |
The local job tied up at Visalia, seen in a telephoto view, a string of reefers giving away the primary segment of the economy here in the Central Valley. Those G&W family units look sharp when theyre clean!! |

Theyre everywhere |
Description: |
Years ago, if you wanted to see G&W power, you had to go to western New York, where the original operation had a small fleet of Alcos they used to run salt trains from the mine in Retsof. Over the years, they became a much larger operation, a holding company with short and regional lines all over. While on the way to Tehachapi, I saw this train rolling through Bakersfield, and was able to get a shot. The day before, I had seen one in Visalia, not too far away. |
