Busy place |
Description: |
Amtrak 763 pushes the Southwest Chief into the station, as a Conrail SW works the Post Office. The SDP40Fs were common power on western trains, though they were being steadily replaced by F 40s. The SDP40Fs had problems on a couple of western roads, most notably SP, for tracking issues and derailments. The Santa Fe didnt seem to have these problems, however, and did not restrict them. ATSF had experience with this type power, as it had FP 45s on its passenger trains, and seemed to know how to run them without incident. |

Lake Shore |
Description: |
A three hour late Lake Shore Limited rolls into the Albany Renssalaer station behind an SDP40F/E 9B combination. I lived in NY City, which was electrified territory, and mostly saw FL 9s and electric motors, with an occasional E unit if I got to Harmon. The SDP40F was a treat, and this was the first one I had seen. The power was pulled here, probably so it could be serviced and sent back west. I dont recall what the train got-I think Es, though it could have been FL 9s, which sometimes ran to Albany. |

Backing in |
Description: |
An Amtrak GP 7 pushes the Southwest Limited into Union Station as a BN dinky rolls out for Aurora. Amtrak had several GPs here, of various heritage. This one is ex Frisco. How about that puzzle switch just ahead of #3?? |

Ready to go |
Description: |
Just about anywhere. I was riding Amtrak into Washington, and was able to shoot this from the train as we rolled past Ivy City. Note the ex PRR MP 54 painted Washington Terminal. Chessie power was common on the B&O trains, which Maryland DOT had taken over, but did not have their own power to run. Thus we have B&O 6607 in the company of a variety of Amtrak units awaiting their next excursion. Interesting I should find a shot of B&O 6607. Its a unit number that seems to be everywhere for me. Ive shot CR, NS, and SOO units with this number, in addition to this one. |
