Unusual power |
Description: |
In the late 60s and early 70s, EMD had quite a catalog, and built several variations on freight units for passenger service. One of the more unusual diesels was the F 40Cs they built for Milwaukee Road commuter trains, through a couple of mass transit districts north and west of Chicago. We see one of them here on the north side of Union Station, ready to head out to the northwest suburbs. |

The F40C was a one of a kind model built for the Milwaukee commuter trains. It resembled an F40 on six axles, but was notable for the stainless steel panels on the side of the unit. We see 604 on the north side of Union Station, waiting for departure. |

The Milwaukee had a special unit built for its commuter trains, the F40C, unique to them. They were being replaced by newer power by the turn of the millenium, so it was a good catch I made while waiting to get unloaded in the Chicago area one day. |
