I was on my way down to the station to shoot the southbound and got this grab shot of the empty coal at the OK 51 crossing. Getting the meet while both trains were moving was going to be problematic, so I took the shot from the road.

Description:	Wed gone over to Fort Gibson Dam on Sunday Apr 11, since it was such a nice day, temps in low 80s and sun. On the way back, we went over through Okay, and followed SR 16 into Wagoner. Along the way, we caught this northbound empty San Antonio coal train headed north on the ex MKT. We were able to get ahead of him and set up for this shot of the train taking the connection onto the ex MP here at Wagoner, as almost all northbounds do.

Description:	The UP line from Kansas City to Denver was never a heavy hitter in the transcontinental lineup, largely due to no outlet at Denver-all the overland traffic went through Cheyenne. It did become a good way to get coal east, since trains coming off the Colorado coal lines could go straight into KC and connections, and stay out of the way of the high priority trains. Heres a coal train at Cheyenne Wells behind an SP unit. still a common sight at the time.
