Adirondack RS 3
Title:  Adirondack RS 3
Description:  The Adirondack Railway was the reincarnation of the NYC line from Utica to Lake Placid, done for the 1980 Olympic games. By 1981, the operators had gone bust, and the line was again dormant, though there was some equipment stored at Thendara, this RS 3 among them.

RS 3
Title:  RS 3
Description:  The Adirondack RR restored service on the former NYC Adirondack Division for the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, games that were notable for the US hockey teams upset win over the Soviets. By 1981, the line had become largely defunct as a going concern, and the equipment was all laid up at Thendara. Here we see the RS 3s that powered the Utica to Lake Placid trains the year before. Thirty years later, the Adirondack Scenic is making a come back on the line, resotring track that had largely gone back to nature, and developing a growing rider base.

Title:  Fantrip mixed
Description:  In the early years of their operation of the Northern Division, the NYSW ran frequent excurions. On these trips, they were not above doing some freight work en route. Here a trip approaches Utica behind a C430/RS3 power consist, with a couple of boxcars and a dead C 430 to set off west of the station.

RS 2
Title:  RS 2
Description:  A visit to the NYSW in Binghamton in the mid 80s could turn up almost anything. They ran a number of short lines during that time, among others, the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley, the Fonda, Johnstown & Gloversville, the Central NY-the one that was the ex DLW Richfield Springs branch, not the incarnation created to run the NS former Erie Delaware Division. Their power was painted for any number of these, as we can see here. RS 2 100 is lettered for the Delaware Otsego System, with FJG initials.

Quite the line up
Title:  Quite the line up
Description:  The dead line at Binghamton has an interesting composition, as one would expect from the NYSW. Leading off is RS 1 252, along with the two wrecked C 430s, which will be scrapped soon. Rounding out the group is an RS 2 and RS 3, one in the DO maroon and red scheme.

Hammerhead
Title:  Hammerhead
Description:  This RS 2 was delivered to LV with both a steam generator and dynamic brakes. The space required by having both made this extra high short hood necessary, giving the unit its obvious nickname. It is now at the Rochester & Genesee Valley museum in Industry NY, and will eventually be repainted into LV colors.

RS 3
Title:  RS 3
Description:  At the time-June 1986-it was possible to get a release from the office of the Maryland Midland in Union Bridge to take pictures in their yard. I was able to see some interesting power there, both live and in the dead line. This RS 3 was, sadly, dead.
