Switchers too
Title:  Switchers too
Description:  Even switchers got the new scheme. I am not aware of any other end cab units on the roster, but this one, an ex SP unit judging by the lights, looks good in the G&W family colors, seen at Brooks Av.

Wagon top
Title:  Wagon top
Description:  This ex B&O wagon top caboose was a hand me down to the Rochester & Southern, which hastily renumbered with a can of spray paint. Still, at this point in history, it was good to see such a car still in service.

Local with a switcher
Title:  Local with a switcher
Description:  End cab switchers were becoming hard to find by the mid 90s, but BN still used them on locals in certain places. This one is out of the racetrack at Berwyn, hustling back to Clyde Yard with 9 cars

Title:  BN 2058
Description:  A GP 20 2058 sits at the Denver roundhouse. Note the "GP 20" plate on the cab side. Many years and a merger later, its still on the unit. To look at this scene, you would not know BN owned a second generation diesel.

Crossing the big road
Title:  Crossing the big road
Description:  US 30 bypasses downtown Fremont to the north, and is a fairly busy road. The drivers on it are not thrilled when the 10 MPH Fremont & Elkhorn Valley dinner train crosses, as we see here.

Dinner train power
Title:  Dinner train power
Description:  The power for this dinner train is an ex CNW end cab, not your typical tourist train diesel. But it gets the job done.

Switching power
Title:  Switching power
Description:  End cabs were on the way out in the 80s, so it was a treat to catch some working, something I appreciate more now than I did then.

Bringing them back
Title:  Bringing them back
Description:  This SW had brought that cut of cars out of Aldershot Yard, behind me in Burlington, taken them through the wye formed by Bayview and Bayview West, and was now returning the turned equipment, once more rolling through the junction.

Anyone can play
Title:  Anyone can play
Description:  In 1984, some of the smaller and older units had not been repainted, especially if they were not going to be around long. Here we see a GP 9 in LV paint, its heritage showing through the paint over, and a pair of switchers, one in the Raritan Valley scheme, one Reading. It was quite the rainbow.

Ex EL unit at home
Title:  Ex EL unit at home
Description:  This CR unit gives away its heritage; for that matter, it has not strayed at all: same paint, same yard. The other units?? From all over.

Transfer
Title:  Transfer
Description:  A transfer from Harrisburg to Enola approaches the west end of the bridge with 99 cars behind power not often seen by this date. The GP 10s were fairly common on locals and yard jobs, but the end cab switchers were a vanishing breed by this time.
