New power |
Description: |
M&E was acquiring Alcos wherever they could get them in the early 80s, and had picked up a pair of C 424s from the TP&W, which had gone all EMD. This one was fixed up and renumbered, the other went for parts. I got there just a little too late for full sun on the unit, so this is one of those "close but no cigar" shots, but I'll take it. I never saw TP&W's Alcos in action |

Awaiting rebirth. |
Description: |
TP&W 801 sits outside the M&E shop, its front pilot removed. M&E acquired both TP&W C 424's, putting them into service as their 18 and 19 once they had gotten some attention at the shop. In an era where Alcos were dropping rapidly, it was good to see a couple back on the road. Jersey was a good place to be in that regard at the time. NYSW had also returned a number of them to the ranks of the living, including five C 430's, out of only 16 built. |
