Where I live, on the KCS, tank trains are usually oil headed south to Gulf Coast refineries. Up here in corn country, its usually ethanol. There are a lot of plants here. This train that we see in its element was on what was once the C&NW, then became the DM&E, and now CP. Need a scorecard to tell the players!! |

Typically, auto racks dont get a DPU on the rear, since 89 foot cars are not that stable when pushed. This mixed intermodal train-the head end was double stacks-seems to belie that theory. |

We were heading from church over to Waffle House, which necessitated a trip across the tracks. I looked down the line as I usually do, to see this train approaching with a pair of NS units leading. This is somewhat unusual, and we dont see a lot of them here, so breakfast could wait. There were also a pair on the rear, along with a KCSM GE to get the 102 frac sand cars over the road. |
