Last run
Title:  Last run
Description:  A trip was run over the CNJ just prior to a section of it being pulled up near Phillipsburg to accomodate construction of I 78. The Phillipsburg station area had some issues with clear areas at the station site, so the trip was run to Easton PA, where riders were able to get off for a photo stop. We see the lead unit head on at Easton.

Good looking train
Title:  Good looking train
Description:  The train was posed on the ex LV bridge for photos. The handrails on the ex CNJ bridge are just barely visible to the left of the lead unit, seen through the trees. The LV bridge was ultimately determined to be deficient, while the CNJ bridge was in much better shape, and it was decided that the Lehigh Line would be swung over to the CNJ alignment and over that bridge, and the right of way realigned on the Jersey side. This is the route NS uses today.

LV station
Title:  LV station
Description:  Almost. The station here was demolished not long after the end of passenger service in 1961, but the platforms remained. The site was used by Tri State to drop riders for the photo op when they backed the train out onto the brodge, just around the curve out of sight.

Es waiting for the rush
Title:  Es waiting for the rush
Description:  One of the things I would do in that era was take either the PATH train to Newark, which yielded a good view of the storage tracks for the commuter trains, or ride the ex DLW out of Hoboken to Newark, which had a view of the engine tracks at Kearny. This day, it was a PATH trip. Going through Harrison, there was this pair of Es on a train that would go to Bay Head during the evening rush

Title:  Es to the ready track
Description:  A pair of E8s make their way from the engine house to the pocket track beyond the station to await the next GG 1 powered trains arrival. The paint scheme on the lead unit is just one of several NJT tried during the early 80s, though the nose lifting lugs give this away as an ex Pennsy unit.

Ex Southern
Title:  Ex Southern
Description:  When Amtrak took over the Crescent, Southern sold the Es to NJ Transit, where they supplemented the Es already in service there, most of them ex PRR units. Most of them did not get repainted, except for a patch over the Southern markings. Heres one on the ready track waiting for a New York train.

SVRHS display
Title:  SVRHS display
Description:  The Susquehanna Valley NRHS had some equipment on display bt the ex DLW station for a number of years. This ex Southern E 8 was the feature, but more local items included several Erie cars and EL caboose 316. The equipment was moved to Elmira when the new baseball stadium was built in 1992 on the site of the former DLW freight house. The station stub tracks, once used for set out sleepers and mail, were removed.

Restoration candidate
Title:  Restoration candidate
Description:  NJT 4334, a former Southern E 8, sits at the Susquehanna Valley RHS display on the set out tracks at the Binghamton DLW station. The original plan was to!restore the unit to Erie or EL paint, with the hope of eventually getting it into running condition. As happens all too often, funding and available/hands fell short. The engine was eventually moved to Elmira, but not til after the new ballfield was built on the site of the DLW freight house, leaving the equipment on the set out tracks land
