Local with heritage power
Title:  Local with heritage power
Description:  It was good to see this SCL unit, relatively untouched, working at North Collier, though predecessor painted power would hang on for a few more years.

New paint
Title:  New paint
Description:  It took a while, but CSX started to paint its power in their new corporate image, one a safety officer-and, it turned out, everyone else-would hate. One can interepret the blue/gray theme any number of ways, but this scheme was most unremarkable. Two of the three units on this helper set pass Point of Rocks heading west.

Rolling by Crystal City
Title:  Rolling by Crystal City
Description:  A new(in the mid 80s) development in the DC area was Crystal City in Arlington VA, which sat next to National Airport(its Reagan now) and alongside the RF&P at a place known as RO, where it ended and the Pennsy began. B&O trains also came through here to reach Potomac Yard, which itself would fall to changing freight patterns over the next decade, becoming a fertile field for new real estate. CSX melded the RF&P-still independent then-and the B&O lines north of DC, connecting them with the southern half of CSX at Richmond. Heres train 405 rolling onto the RF&P at RO behind a mix of the new companys power.

Northbound out of the sun
Title:  Northbound out of the sun
Description:  One of the downsides of a north/south line was that northbounds were coming out of the sun much of the day. This one has a SBD U36B leading a pair of GP 38s on train 300, rolling 57 cars toward the RF&P.

Fall color
Title:  Fall color
Description:  Not only are the trees in color, the consists on trains riding the former B&O are looking colorful as well. This 137 car westbound is crossing the Potomac after passing through the Harpers Ferry Tunnel. The gent in the river seems more intent on the fish than the train.
