Interesting yard power
Title:  Interesting yard power
Description:  One of the trips I would do was a ride to Newark on the ex DLW, which passed the Conrail Meadows Yard in Kearny. I was not always able to get a well composed shot, but I did see some interesting stuff, such as this GP 35/GP9B set working the yard.

Run Around
Title:  Run Around
Description:  The power, now an ex PC GP 35 instead of the more familiar EL unit, on this local on the NJ & NY runs around its train at Moonachie. At the time, there was no mid day passenger service on the line, and the freights had the place to themselves til late afternoon.

NJ&NY local
Title:  NJ&NY local
Description:  The New Jersey & New York line from Jersey City to Spring Valley, now known as the NJ Transit Pascack Valley Line, hosts a fair amount of freight traffic. Here we see an ex PC GP 35 working at Moonachie, with an ex PRR caboose, still a common feature on trains in that era.

Classic power
Title:  Classic power
Description:  Conrail must have had a traffic surge in late 1988, as several of these units showed up in Binghamton. This GP 35 was the power for local job WABH 11. I got lucky and caught it on a sunny day. SLN 3 is at left, waiting to get out on the Tier. Check the EL gon at right. They didn't have too much longer by this date.

Lucky catch
Title:  Lucky catch
Description:  I rode the connecting train from Suffern to Port Jervis to get the miles over the Graham Line this cold day in 1984. When I got to PO, OIBU was there waiting on a crew change. Just lucky, considering all the times Id been there and not seen a road train. As usual, the sun is elusive.

Grab shot
Title:  Grab shot
Description:  One of the best ways to see the engine tracks at CRs South Kearny yard was from the ex DLW commuter trains that ran along the north side of the yard. Unfortunately, it offered only the option of grab shots from the train. Still, the power could get interesting. Heres a pair of units typical of the era, with a patched but bleeding through ex PC unit.

GP 35 on the Corridor
Title:  GP 35 on the Corridor

Dead Line
Title:  Dead Line
Description:  Enola engine facility is filled with diesels awaiting their final moments. There were many SW types present, marking the end of the end cab switcher era on Conrail. New GP 15's and B23's, as well as demoted U23's and GP 38's of various types took over much of the local and yard work.

Dead line
Title:  Dead line
Description:  There will be a bunch of these. The Enola dead line abounded with all kinds of diesels in the mid 80s. I took several photos from points along US 11/15 hoping to capture some of the power that would soon be going to its final rest. Some nuits still wore their pre Conrail garb-note the ex EL GP 35 to the right rear.
