Title:  Eastbound and Alcos
Description:  This eastbound had an SD 40 leading, but three 6 axle MLWs in the consist for its 106 cars. Eastern Canada was Alco paradise in this time, long after the US class 1s had shed them from their rosters. Note the white flags, denoting an extra train. All CP freights ran as extras, and all flew the correct flags. This was another practice that was a lost art in the US.

Description:  I was shooting the CN trains coming out of the Mont Royal tunnel, just below and behind me, when I heard the crossing gates for the CP line overhead wtart to ring. I ran and was able to get this going away shot of a westbound behind a pair of 6 axle MLWs.

Title:  Good diesel, good station
Description:  One of the better looking stations on the Tier was the Erie station at Silver Springs, which was used by the MOW department, and kept in pretty good shape. The diesel, though in battered paint, still looks good, as any Alco did in 1991.

Title:  Late 270
Description:  Train 070 was usually a morning/mid day arrival in the Binghamton area, but sometimes it would not show til the afternoon, such as todays train. It is approaching the NY 17C underpass with a mix of power that includes a pair of six motor Alcou, not commonly seen on the Tier. Todays train is a combination of 270 and 558, with 15 stack platforms, 4 COFC and 69 freight.

Description:  This early morning eastbound has white flags flying, indicating and extra train as it rolls out of the sun with 88 cars behind three big Ms. It was Canadian Pacific practice to run freights as extras, even if they had a schedule. As such, they flew white flags, a practice that had largely ended in the US.
