Too late |
Description: |
This 396 showed up as the shadows were falling, and I was not able to get it in good sun. Still, a Chessie family portrait was too good to pass up, as the three units represented the three components of the Chessie System, even though the leader has been renumbered, that were slowly disappearing into CSX. The B&O GP 30 was a nice touch too. |

The helper units were either hitching a ride on this eastbound, or perhaps aiding with dynamic braking. The train was going past when I arrived, so dont know how heavy it was. |

Power in the yard |
Description: |
Not sure if this is Montgomery-I chased the 614 from Gauley Bridge to Huntington, so it has to be west of Gauley Bridge, but dont think its as far as Charleston. Wherever it is, good to see all that Chessie power 30 years later. The pair of units in the foreground had just come in with a westbound coal train. |

Westbound pigs |

A westbound trailer train heads for Sand Patch with trailers for Chicago behind a set of Chessie power. The building whose corner is visible at the right of the photo, partly hidden behind the tree, is the Holiday Inn, which on floors higher than the 4th, offers a great view of the action-or at least it did in 1984. Don't know how tall those trees are now, 30 years later. |
