A dinky blows-or actually, doesnt blow-through La Grange on the center track as it makes a high speed run for Aurora. La Grange, like many Chicago suburbs, had a whistle oridinance prohibiting trains from blowing for crossings. The trains were thick here during rush ”our, not only commuters, but BN was not squamish about running big freights mixed in with the dinky parlde, so you could just as easily be stepping in front of a 100 cer coal train as a commuter. Its a wonder more people were not killed. |

I caught this dinky crossing the IHB. How, I can,t figure. You didn't hear the trains on the BN, since La Grange had a whistle ordinance. If you weven't looking at the bridge when the train hit it, you missed it. IHB trains ran at about 10 MPH, so were basy to get. The BN was a lot faster. |
