Title:  Interesting stuff
Description:  An overview of QD yard shows a few interesting items. In the foreground is a set of power that came off a Goudy coal train. A trio of UP units, no stranger to coal service out west, are not that common here. Behind them is an NS SD40-2, one of the early ones that had been an NW unit originally. In the background, thats not a P&W unit. NYSW acquired some ex P&W units as part of their lease fleet. Most of them wound up working on the NYSW for a time, including this one, presently dozing away the afternoon. The NYSW proper also is showing the flag, as a yellowjacket from BH 2 comes around the corner from Bevier St, seen under the bridge in the distance.

Title:  H 88 with an undecorated unit
Description:  NS elected to take delivery of their new GEs in primer, and paint them in their own shops, rather than wait for GE to do it, thus getting them in service quicker. I cant help think of all those Athearn units I saw in hobby shops, with "undecorated" marked on the box. Sometimes life imitates art.

Description:  The Lehigh Valley once had a busy main line from Jersey to Buffalo. Now, almost 40 years after Conrail, theres not much left west of Allentown. One segment is the line from Sayre to Ithaca, which is reached from the ex Erie at Waverly NY. Heres local H 12 working at Athens PA just south of Sayre, with salt cars for the Ithaca Branch.

Description:  Train 206 usually got a pair of GEs, once in a while an EMD, almost always C40s with an occasional SD 60 or 70. Today there must have been a problem, as one of the local service SD40 rebuilds is leading the train off the Chenango River bridge, seen from Water St.

Description:  Train 168 works hard behind an ex Conrail SD 50 and a GE as it rolls a mix of 107 TOFC cars and stack platforms toward Belden tunnel. This was not an uncommon train length for this move. Eventually, it was split into two trains, the added schedules being 22K/23K, running to Ayer, with 205/206 running to a new facility at Mechanicville on the site of the old B&M yard there.
