Another semaphore |
Description: |
We all knew the Erie semaphores were on borrowed time, as Conrail had announced they planned to single track the Tier west of Binghamton. These signals had been installed in the 1920s, and were nearing 75 years in service. The segment from River Jct to Hornell had been single tracked the previous year, and now this section from Hornell to Gang Mills was on the chopping block. We made an effort to shoot them all, as here with DABU rolling past one of the blades near MP 316. |

Jacksons Pumpkin Farm was a popular destination in the fall, when the pumpkins came in and they set up a whole fantasy land at their main location out on NY 17C, across the tracks from this view. Along the rocks |

One of the more interesting, but hard to get, shots was this on along the rock ledge west of Waverly. TV 202 is making its way east under O'Brien's Inn, a landmark along the cliff for many years. The hard part about this shot was that you had to park on the shoulder of NY 17 east, an expressway, and climb up a steep embankment, risking getting run off(or tickeyed) by the state troopers. The location is just as you approach the exit 60 off ramp. |

X2000 meet BUOI |
Description: |
In photo that has "Erie" written all over it-note the space for the center siding, and the Erie "traffic light" signal in the distance, the X2000 meets BUOI just east of town. The only thing better would be a couple of EL SD45s-or maybe SD60s by this time-on the freight. |

Phoebe reborn?? |
Description: |
Not exactly. In 1993, the X2000, a prototype for what would become the Acela, toured the eastern US and CP. It ran from Philadelphia to Buffalo via Binghamton. Here we see it meeting BUOI at Ellistown Rd east of Waverly. Thats one of Eries variety of signals on track 2. |

Fogged |
Description: |
The day was gloomy enough, but that camera had a light leak, so the rear of this 53 car BUOI approaching MP 253 is a bit fogged. |
