Work extra
Title:  Work extra
Description:  Summer time was track work time, and the Tier was not exempt. This work extra rolls through West BD on its way east to another work site. On the left, we see the Vestal Spur, the remaining portion of the ex DLW still in service in the Binghamton area. At the time, there were still a few customers in Johnson City, as well as the NYSEG Goudy Station, and National Pipe & Plastic in Vestal. There is now(2015) nothing left on that line, and NS is looking to abandon it. Thats St Michaels Orthodox Church on the right with the gold dome.

Chemical Coast power
Title:  Chemical Coast power
Description:  One of the more important locations on the Conrail system was the ex CNJ between Oak Island and Perth Amboy NJ, where many of the oil companies had refineries and chemical plants. Its the place that many think of when New Jersey is mentioned. Conrail generated a lot of revenue here, to the point of having two dedicated trains originate here daily at the time of this photo, CCAL to Allentown, and CCPI to Conway. Heres some of the local power that gathered all that traffic, as seen from the Jersey Turnpike.
