Headed for the tunnel
Title:  Headed for the tunnel
Description:  The Ringling Bros circus train is about to enter the East River tunnel at Hunterspoint Av in Queens behind a trio of E60s, which just took over from three LIRR MP15ACs. The train will be turned over to Conrail once in Jersey, and spotted near the Lincoln Tunnel entrance. Tomorrow the equipment and animals will be taken through the tunnel to their show in Madison Square Garden. I am standing on the LIRR Hunterspoint Av station, MP 1 in the foreground is the distance from the Long Island City float bridges, now long abandoned. The subway train behind the Amtrak power is the No 7 Flushing-Times Square train, seen about to leave the elevated line is has been on since just after leaving Main St, and enter the tunnel to make its Hunterspoint Av stop, then Vernon-Jackson, then on into Manhattan. The cars date to 1963, just prior to the Worlds Fair.

Description:  One of the more unusual moves to run through Penn Station is the Ringling Brothers circus train, which uses he tunnel to run from the LIRR to a staging area for Madison Square Garden out in the Jersey meadows.
