Starting east
Description:
An eastbound 178 car loaded coal train gets started from Crewe. This was the point where coal trains were consolidated after getting over the Blue Ridge. Some prodigious consists went east from here to tidewater, as the gradient was quite easy. I often saw trains in the 225 car range on this line.

Grab shot
Description:
The same eastbound I shot at Crewe I got at Wilson. They move better than youd expect for a heavy train, and all I was able to get was this grab shot off US 460.
