Description:  The going away shot of 557 from the Conklin Kirlwood overpass. The train will be in East Binghamton in about five minutes. It will set off cars for 553 to Montreal, make a crew change, and head out the Tier for Toronto.

Title:  Short train, big valley
Description:  Train 557 rolls under the NY 352 overpass at Big Flats with its short train of 9 COFC, 7 TOFC and 7 freight. The small bridge the train is crossing was replaced with a culvert soon after this scene was recorded. The line here is now single track.

Description:  Train 557 rolls west past the old Erie station at Chemung. This was one of my favorite shots, as it was really easy to get. The view is right off NY 17, just up the ramp and a right turn, there you are.

On the rocks
Title:  On the rocks
Description:  One place I didnt shoot a lot of trains, partly because it was hard to beat a train to it after getting the shot at Chemung, and partly because the view was in shadow much of the day, was here at Wellsburg. In the summer, in late afternoon, this shot was possible. Wish I could have shot it in good light in the winter when the rocks were iced over.

Description:  This shot near Adrian was one of many scenic locations in the Canisteo valley. It was always a good chase there, with many good shots to be had. The locals, as seen here, seemed oblivious to the passing show. Today's episode is train 557, rolling behind museum power with 20 stack platforms, 7 TOFC and 13 freight.

Description:  The Erie station was used by the local Agway dealer for a number of years, but they either moved or went under. The station is now boarded up, and by next year there will be only a concrete pad here.

Description:  A 557 train for Toronto heads into the last rays of sun behind a double set of power. Four units was uncommon, as typical power was a GP9u/SD40. The power may have gotten out of cycle, or the train was annulled one day.
