Afternoon line up |
Description: |
The Rock Island was the first to get the new F 40s, since it had the oldest power, most in need of updating. They were still running an E 6 and some E 7s on their Joliet trains til earlier that year. The first batch of F 40s is lined up at La Salle St, ready to go onto their trains for the evening rush. The Rock was still running the Quad Cities and Peoria Rockets at the time, behind E 8s. Looking back, it was quite a show. I wish I had paid more attention to it. |

Wheres the Century?? |
Description: |
This classic view from track level of the Board of Trade was a hallmark of La Salle St. Somehow, it loses its grandeur with a group of RTA F 40s, especially to those more accustomed to seeing NYC and Rock Es, and NKP PAs. |

Fresh faces |
Description: |
The Rock had by far the most unreliable diesel fleet, so when the RTA was created, the first road to get new power was the Rock. Three of the new F 40s are at La Salle St waiting for the afternoon rush. |
