NAFTA unit |
Description: |
KCS had at least two of these NAFTA painted units- This one, an AC4400, was trailing on an empty AEPX coal train at Siloam Springs. The other was SD 60 2000, which I caught in KC a few years earlier. |

Caught him |
Description: |
I had just gotten home from recycling-right by the tracks-when I heard a horn. This is a running joke between my wife and me: we always seem to hear a train within five minutes of returning home, no matter where weve been, or if weve been following the tracks the whole time we were out. I dropped the bins in the garage and headed out, knowing from the direction of the horn that it was a northbound. As I crested the hill into town, I heard the detectorf at Davidson Rd go off, and knew I had to hurry. As it turned out the train was being run into the siding at Gentry, and was holding there. Oh, good, a meet, I thought. I went to Main St and shot the head end as it waited at the site of the old station. Thats Ark 12 in the distance, Well see some shots from there later in the set. |

Long line |
Description: |
A head on view shows the long line of coal hoppers stretched out toward the Ark 12 overpass and CP South Gentry, glinting in the late afternoon sun. Of note, trailing unit KCS 4575 was once a "NAFTA" unit, with a special paint job. It was painted into the Belle scheme in 2013 |

The northbound |
Description: |
The dispatcher said the grain train was to meet a northbound at Stilwell. I was hoping for an actual train, so was sorta disappointed when it turned out to be just four lite engines, now in the siding as they are about to meet the southbound. Oh well....though one of them did turn out to be notable. |

The lite power move rolls up the siding as the grain train approaches on the main, holding back so he wont have to come to a complete stop at the home signal. |

Once a special unit |
Description: |
Third in consist of the lite power move was this surprise. It doesnt look all that different from any other AC44 now, but back in the day, when NAFTA was a big deal, this engine had a special paint job on its gray body, noting the different roads in the KCS stable, and how they fit into the NAFTA scheme. There was also an SD 50 so adorned, which I have a shot of at Knoche Yard in KC from 1999 or so. |
