Es, Fs and washboards |
Description: |
The engine tracks at New Haven have a couple of F 40s and a lone E 8 ready to take the parade of Boston trains east-this is long before the electrification to Boston. A group of old New Haven "washboards" so named for their fluted stainless side panels, and now in MOW service, adds a decidedly New Haven flavor to the scene. |

Ready power |
Description: |
A look at the ready tracks in New Haven shows a couple of units peculiar to the region. The E8 is one of two that worked the Shore Line in that period, the other being 499, The F 40s assigned region is given away by the "ghetto grilles" on the windshields. Rock throwers were prevalent along the Shore Line in those days. |
