Taking the signal
Title:  Taking the signal
Description:  The northbound empty oil train approaches the signal at the north end of the siding, about to take the main heading north. Home signals on KCS are single head: either you go, or you dont, its red or green, by and large. In the northeast where I came from, this would be a two head signal, red over green.

Not always sunny skies
Title:  Not always sunny skies
Description:  We all like to get that nicely lit shot, with the puffy cloud Kodachrome sky, but today was not it. Northbound 115 car empty oil train rolls toward the end of the siding at North Siloam behind a pair of BNSF units, as the gloom closes in on a Novermber Friday afternoon.

Sometimes you have to take what you get
Title:  Sometimes you have to take what you get
Description:  I came across the US 412 overpass to see the back of a northbound empty oil train sitting in the siding. I made a quick turn through town, anticipating a meet. As usually happens with me, I got the light at Main St red. While I was sitting there, the Lincoln Av crossing gates lit up. Crap-Im going to miss the shot. The head end of the southbound H train went past-a pair of SD 70Ms bracketing an ES 44, all in Belle paint-and I pulled up to the crossing. After the 107 cars of the H train passed, I leaned out the window to get the meet shot, such as it was. This is how it looked from the car.
