Panoramic view |
Description: |
One of the locations that has a really good view, and I wish Id shot here more often, except that youre on the NY 70 overpass, is here at Canaseraga. The Erie main tracks were separated here-there was once a center siding through town-and were also grade separated. Whe Conrail single tuacked here in 1992, track 2, not so jokingly referred to as the "D&H Main" due to its 10 MPH speed restriction, was the track that got lifted, leaving track 1, now a 50 MPH speedway. Train 261 is taking advantage of the improved conditions as it makes its way toward Bufkalo. |

Description: |

Another view of the bridge |
Description: |
This was taken from the access road to Letchworth State Park-you can drive right by the gate in the off season-showing the road overpass as well as the main bridge. At the time, it was the highest bridge on the Conrail system. It is not so now that NS owns it; they have at least one on the Rathole in Kentucky that is 300 feet. |

Another power mix |
Description: |
Train 554, the Sea Land connection that now comes off Conrail at Buffalo, seemed to get anything. Todays effort has a pair of SOO units, which were really unusual for this train. This day there are 85 stack platforms in tow. |

Past the detector |
Description: |
The EL detector at Campville, MP 230, was still in service til the mid 90s. If it was tripped, it would set signal 231-1 to approach, and light a "hot box" light under the head. I only saw it do that once, on a TV 303. Train 261 is passing the relay case for the detector as it works west toward Owego. Today's train has the typical pair of SOO SD60's and 66 TOFC. |
