Redemption |
Description: |
I ran I 40 west to Santa Rosa, then US 54 to Vaughn, then west on US 60 to reach Belen. I shot five trains on UPs ex Rock Island/SP line, and missed one, then started in earnest on the BNSF. My first encounter was an eastbound near here, just east of Encino. I saw the train coming out from under the US 60 overpass at the bottom of the hill, forgetting that BNSF runs their trains like theyre being chased by a fire breathing dragon, and missed the shot by the time I got turned around to get to the spot I wanted. Five minutes later, this eastbound showed up, and I was able to get this shot across the steppes, with Pedernal Mountain in the distance. |

Wide open |
Description: |
The same eastbound at Encino, this time in a wider angle view of its three units, 96 freight, and three stack platforms. The train is almost dwarfed by the landscape, showing why a long lens is an important tool in the west. |
