Waiting
Title:  Waiting
Description:  Wed been out for a joyride on Fathers Day, rolling into Gentry to find the Main St crossing blocked by a grain train. I went up onto the Ark 12 overpass to get a couple of shots, first this one of the train stretched through town.

Why the grainer was waiting
Title:  Why the grainer was waiting
Description:  Soon a northbound appeared, with what has now become a typical mix of CP and KCS power. This train had 36 stack platforms and six articulated auto racks. In the old days-two months ago-this would have been the Q train. Now its the MMX-181, headed for Chicago. The grain train has cut the train at the crossing here where Ark 59B crosses the tracks, north of he Little Debbie plant. Hell be there a while.

One shot
Title:  One shot
Description:  I heard a train climbing the grade from Watts, and took off for downtown. I wasnt fast enough; he beat me into town, and I had to scramble to catch up. After a 70 MPH ride up Ark 59 to Gentry, I was able to catch the six units and 135 empty covered hoppers rolling north in the last light of day. Hopefully Ill see a lot more of these this summer, especially as more and more CP units mix in, more than just the splash of red on this train. CPKC today announced a new paint scheme for the merged road.

Off to a good start
Title:  Off to a good start
Description:  We had just left the house on a trip to Cleveland, and were driving up Ark 59 toward Gravette, to go east on Ark 72 to reach I 49. As luck would have it, a southbound 125 car AEPX coal train happened past as we were approaching Decatur. It was a grab shot from the car, but Ill take it. Trailing unit 6713 is an ex CNW GE.

Caught one
Title:  Caught one
Description:  We were heading up to Joplin for a trip to Pizza Ranch, which wed taken a liking to in trips to the upper midwest, and to Woodys Smokehouse to pick up some barbecue-and just to get out, since it was a nice day in the 40s, after a week of snow and bitter(overnights below zero) cold. As we approached Decatur, a UP nose came out of the trees. I turned at got it at the next crossing, taking advantage of not having to be on the west side of the tracks, as it was mid day. The 30 MPH board is for northbounds, which are coming into an S curve as they approach town.

Better angle
Title:  Better angle
Description:  A mile or so south, the tracks swing into a right hand curve, giving me a little more sun on this 91 car crude oil train. The leader appears to be a recent repaint, as it was the cleanest UP unit I'd seen in some time. It appears they have dispensed with the nose wings.

Not ten minutes later
Title:  Not ten minutes later
Description:  After the short chase of the crude oil train, we resumed our northbound trek. As we came into Decatur, I noticed the gates down at a crossing on the south edge of town. I thought it was a malfunction, since the weather had been wreaking havoc with many things this week. Turned out it was not a glitch, it was the 262 train headed south with 282 axles. I caught him in a glint of sun at the detector at MP 218.4 behind an international mix of KCSM and CP power.

Catching up
Title:  Catching up
Description:  Wed gone to breakfast in Gentry, then over to OReilly to get yet another headlight, and visit with my son, who is the manager of that store. As we were parting, we saw a train pull up into the siding. In short order, the dodger went south, and the chase was on. We caught the DPU south of Decatur, getting this grab shot from the car.

Going away
Title:  Going away
Description:  Not the first time Ive shot this unit, its one of two rolling away at Wolf Creek. Its mate is a Grinstein SD 70, always a good thing to see. There are some who dont especially like that scheme. Ive always thought it was elegant.
