Farewell to the CNJ  Contributor's Pick!
The Tri State Chapter NRHS ran a lot of trips in the mid 80s. Conrail was a willing partner, and Tri State ran a well organized trip. You could not do this today. The trip this ticket covered was the last trip over the CNJ main line to Phillipsburg. After this, the line would be cut near Phillipsburg to accommodate the last miles of I 78 before it crossed into Pennsylvania. It was a good thing for drivers, as it eliminated about three miles of traffic lights and fast food joints in Alpha, but not so much for commuters on the west end of the line, as the trains now ran no farther west than High Bridge. The train ran with three E 8s and a matched consist of mostly ex GN cars. It was a good looking train. A nice touch was the CRRNJ NY City office stamp on the back.
