Budd and Branch  Contributor's Pick!
The Branford Electric Railroad Museum sponsored a trip in January 1984 that covered the New Canaan, Danbury, and Waterbury branches of the ex New Haven. It was a good way to get the mileage on all three branches, plus the New Haven main between Stamford and Bridgeport. The trip was to have run with a pair of RDCs-hence the Budd title, but the morning of Jan 21 turned out to be brutally cold-single digits-and the forecast high was around 20. Rather than risk somewhat shaky Budd cars in extreme weather, the trip ran with a pair of ex Reading coaches sandwiched between a pair of FL 9s. Not RDCs, but still an interesting consist. The trip went without a hitch. But man, was it cold!!
