| The NYCTA for decades after the fare went to 15 cents in the early 1950s, used tokens to access the subway. As time and technology moved on, the tokens were eventually phased out, replaced by the Metro Card, which we see here. It had a magnetic stripe on the back, which the turnstile read to deduct the fare. |
