JB Hunt has a vast container fleet. When I started there in 1995, there were approximately 10,000 53 foot boxes, and maybe 7000 48 footers, split between about 3000 Thermacubes(700000 series) and plate side(600000 series). By 2003, the 48s were gone, and the 53 foot fleet was expanding rapidly. A newer development was these 53 foot reefers, which came on around 2011. There are only several hundred of these, so catching one is a real find. This one is southbound on CSX.

Mike Berka General Hi Tom, you are exactly right about those 48 foot containers. The 700 series ones were Therma Cubes, because they were insulated. Those were manufactured by Great Dane, starting in March 1993. Later in 1993, containers in the 600 series were purchased, also too, in the 48 foot length. With the 600 series containers, there were around 5,200 of these, with them being in the series from 600000 up to at least 605244. The 700 series containers were numbered from 700000 up to at least 703699. These containers were retired when J B Hunt decided to go with an all 53 foot container fleet. The containers that replaced these, were the ones manufactured by Wabash National, starting with container 216500, which was built in November 2001. These Wabash containers were numbered from 215500-227039, and were built between November 2001 and March 2006. In March 2006, the first of the steel China containers were started, with container 230500. Currently, these containers are now numbered into the 328200' 1/12/2021 3:56:31 AM
