Cavernous and dark  Contributor's Pick!       
The Washington Metro used indirect lighing in its stations, which I always thought were dark compared to other cities, especially New York, where I rode most of the time. Seen from the pedestrian overpass, a look at one of the stations, which looks quite dim from this angle, though the light was better at platform level.
