Long Island had a number of towers still in service in the 80s. One of the busier ones was Nassau, just east of the Mineola station. It controlled a pair of crossovers west of the station, and the junction with the Oyster Bay Branch, as well as the interlocking at Locust Valley, where the branch goes to single track. At one time, it also controlled the switch to the line that went down toward Hempstead along Franklin Av in Garden City, which curved to the right of the building with the ivy at far right. That line was abandoned in the 1960s. We see a westbound Oyster Bay train coming off the branch behind power pack equipped MP 15 172. It will make its stop here, then run into Jamaica for NY and Brooklyn connections.
